This Vineyard institution was opened in 1858 by Nathan Mayhew and is the oldest operating retailer on the island. Offering an eclectic mix of goods from toys to snacks to hardware, the store at one time even featured a car wash and a laundromat onsite. Alley's is now preserved for the future through the work of the Martha's Vineyard Preservation Trust.
