Seen in Vineyard waters, dories are small, shallow fishing boats built with wide planks that can be used in the open sea. Traditionally they have a flat bottom, high sides and a sharp hull and are about 20 feet long. The first dories were built in New England fishing towns in the early 18th century and are currently enjoying new popularity.
