These miniature lanterns are modeled after the glowing paper Chinese lanterns displayed every August during Oak Bluffs annual Grand Illumination night. The first Grand Illumination was in 1869 and featured fireworks, music and dancing. The lanterns are hung on the porches of the gingerbread cottages surrounding the Tabernacle in the Campground.
