We restring more than just pearls!
Cultured pearls and many other beads are often strung on silk thread with a knot between each one. This keeps them from rubbing against each other and prevents all the beads from cascading to the floor if the necklace or bracelet was to break.
Silk thread is susceptible to wear and tear, the fine silk can stretch and weaken over time. If there is extra space or discoloration between the pearls or beads, that is a sign that the piece needs to be restrung.
Wampum bracelets are not usually strung with knots, so they may require restringing more often. Be sure to restring your wampum bracelet before it breaks, especially if they are worn everyday. We use a specialized polyethylene fiber line (often used for fishing!) because it is one of the strongest synthetic materials available for this purpose. We have found this line to last much longer than traditional clear fishing line becuase it doesn't dry out and crack.
